The newspaper "News from Krakow" was published under the regime of the General Government which was established in Poland by the Germans after the division of Poland that followed the agreements with the Sovietic government in 1939. The Ukrainians living in the Western part of Galicia (the West belonged to the General Government , the East was occupied by the Soviet Union) founded the newspaper to support their interests and their nationalistic claims. Besides its distribution in the region of the General Gouvernment, the paper was mostly sent to Germany for ukrainien workers, but also to other german occupied countries.
First published in Krakow (first issue 1.7.1940) the publishing house was moved to Vienna in order to flee the red army in 1944 (last issue 29.3.1945).
"News of Krakow" was regarded as the mouthpiece of the Ukrainian Central Committee (UCC) for the dissemination of Ukrainian culture and nationalism - within the limits permitted by the German censorship - in the General Government. The newspaper used the anti-Semitic propaganda for its benefit.
